Ricky Hunt - UK Writer, Director & Actor

Hi! Im Ricky.

A London-based writer, director and performer.

I make work that sits somewhere between comedy, music and theatre, usually chaotic, often emotional, and always driven by story.

I was born in London to a family of Londoners and grew up in Essex on a farm full of cats, coal fires and noise. It was a place where people turned survival into performance, big personalities, quick humour, and storytelling as a way of getting through things. That’s where it started for me.

I began as a professional dancer and spent ten years touring internationally. Eventually my body gave up before I did, so I shifted into writing and directing. still chasing the same feeling, just from a different angle.

Since then I’ve made work across comedy, theatre and immersive performance. Some of it is loud and ridiculous. Some of it is more intimate and cinematic. Most of it lives somewhere in between.

Earth to Kurt – A Grunge Opera was described as “a masterpiece… finely tuned, perfectly polished,” and my recent Fringe show Pov’ to Less Pov’ was a sold-out run exploring immersive storytelling, audience interaction and personal narrative.

I’m drawn to characters on the edge of transformation, people trying to break out of something, or become something new.

My work often centres queer voices, working-class identity, and the tension between who we are and who we’re told to be.

At the moment I’m developing projects across stage and screen, including Nancy, a pop concert musical about fame, power and survival.

I’m interested in work that entertains first, but leaves something behind.

Something that lingers.

Something that stays with you on the bus home and beyond.

"Ricky Hunt’s direction never assumes too little of the audience, offering them the chance to reflect onto the piece rather than jutter out into obscurity"
